Looking at the Sleeved marks, I think both have been struck twice. I'll check on chopper lump and barrel dimensions tomorrow. Very interesting.

Vol;

Double striking at the proof house is not uncommon.

The proof house can also make some stamping mistakes. This is 20 gauge that at some time received the 12 in a diamond mark!

I think the London proof House at that time stamped the bore size on the tubes in front of the flats on sleeved guns . The oval with the JF/S will be the company who sleeved the gun .
Not a gambling man but I'll bet anyone a $ they are dovetailed barrels as an "experienced eye" I see no signs to be otherwise .

Ken
There was a joke in the British gun trade that the proof houses worked a two rule system .
Rule one , The Proof House can not be wrong .
Rule two , If it is proved beyond shadow of a doubt that the proof House had made an error , see rule one .
Joking aside there were guns incorrectly marked . I have had sleeved guns not marked and reproofs marked as sleeved . Wrong sizes and chamber lengths have also been known .There was a short period in the 80's when London did not marked " sleeved" just using a re-proof marks along with the current stamps .

Looks like a pair of damascus 20 bore round action ejector barrels, to me.
I'll bet the chambers are no longer round after the butchers at the proof house have hammered all their rubbish in to the flats.

Man Ken, now is the time to sell that gun before the bottom falls out of the market on guns that are mis-marked. As an act of generosity, I'll give you a full third of what you paid for it smile Nice gun, you must really know where to find some interesting stuff wink

I'm thinkin' the Proof Houses just enjoy messing with we clueless Colonials, and I should probably stop trying frown

Original London Proof, with 20 in a diamond. Then Birmingham Proof with a 1967 date code; at 3 TONS = 8,960 psi = 618 BAR "Highest Mean Service Pressure"

One of my other, sleeved WR droplocks, with a b-ham date code of 1985

Looks clean, right? The problem is that all previous proofs were wiped out, so it's really difficult to date the gun. A quick lookup on the WR site dates it to 1839-1849, which is impossible.
