There was mention on here years ago, and I cannot remember by whom, that there is a method recommended by Perazzi to refresh the "case colors" on the action surface by using some method of chemical coloring. Seems to me it included cold blue and something else. It might have been Eightbore that mentioned it, not sure.

Anybody remember that, or know how I can access that information? I want to try the process on an inexpensive S X S that I'm refinishing, but don't want to go through re-case hardening it. This particular gun had cyanide colors on it anyway.

Thanks in advance, Stan

I believe Oscar Gaddy might have said something about that. But it was so long ago. Probably, someone else has talked about it since. Good luck.

YouTube video by mosinvirus show how to use cold blue and heat to generate case type colors. I think that will do what you want.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I found this, and will be ordering some and experimenting with it in the near future.

This is a pretty good video of a shop owner using it:
