I am quite confident that Sauer did not use the Ernst Thälmann Werk before WWII and Merkel was more closely associated with Ernst Thälmann Werke(1954??) than anyone?

Interesting piece, a post WWII economy shotgun, haven't seen this before.
Seems to have a safety lever and a cocking lever on the tang.

I concur on all accounts. I would really like to see the proofmarks to see who cobbled it together.
