Thanks all. I removed them. Not as difficult as I assumed. The internal springs were far from optimal, so I used some ball point springs that remarkably fit with a minimal trimming for length.

Would snap ring pliers work? Not the right tool for the job. You might get away with it, a time or two, but, the tips on snap ring pliers are tapered, and wouldn’t be an optimal fit in the striker bushing. Best, Ted
