Proof and pressure. Pressure is my concern but proof testing limits is a close concern

So what are your thoughts on shooting 2 1/2 28g loads in my 20 gauge from 1924 my friend?
Thank you ever so much

Like I said, I have limited experience in 20 bore pre-WWII for now, although I do shoot modern Ferlachers in 20 bore. I typically see 28 grammes in 70mm lengths so if you can stuff 28 grammes in 2 1/2" and the tube steel is Krupp or one of the newer Electro variants, it will survive but you will be @ or near the max. I for sure wouldn't chance it with repurposed tubes from older platforms or pattern welded tubes.

Thank you my friend. They are Krupp barrels. I figured it would be fine but thought I would get the group’s opinion. I shot unknowingly a 1903ish 12 gauge with magnum modern 2 3/4 shells for years and never had a problem. Then I learned that older guns from Europe especially, were chambered in 2 1/2 inch. German steel and guns are famous for quality. But after learning my potential ignorance could have been disastrous, I’m doing my homework, so they say.
Thank you ever so much.

Indeed, those cartridges with higher end pressures just put a lot of stress, wear & tear on the gun & you, fatiguing platforms with quality & craftsmanship not seen since and also requires a special mechanic to repair. Said mechanics are getting fewer & fewer too. But the older, nostalgic platforms were designed and made for several lifetimes of gunning with the appropriate loads. The Bohemian offerings designed for Hares were to be used from they day they arrived to the original custodian till Elysium.

I have shot & have seen cases & cases of the Kent Fast Whatever cartridges ignited at Kansas Pheasants and even a Beretta Extrema, I think it was, fell victim to those higher 14K PSI pressures. Those jaw breaking cartridges just wore the metal till it would not function properly.

I did take your advice & sourced a flat or 2 of the GameBore Regals in 16 bore. I just wish they had a little larger shot size selection.

I can't say enough about the service @ Clay Shooters Supply. I ordered one day & they arrived the next or at the very most one day later. Like they were reading my mind.....

I have bounced around the size 6 shot given as 2.6mm. I assume that is a Brit size and possibly rounded? American size nr. 6 is 0.11"(2.8mm) where you take the shot size & subtract the published # from 17.

I went with #5s from Gamebore. 5s are my favorite pheasant load and hit them like a freight train

Just like you, I fancy #5s(U.S. of A.), but I just did not see a selection in 16 bore. #5s have been good to me the world over on Ducks, Francolin(about 6 different varieties), Guinea Fowl, Gypos, Spurwings and last but not least the ole Ditch Parrot.

I am seeing if the guy I know has #5s in 16 gauge left. I bought 2 flats out of England from him. 28 grams-1 oz.
