After an afternoon training my GWP on pheasants and using my 20ga DHE Parker my host poured me an eggnog and rum. Now the drink may be fairly run of the mill for many but it was my first in my 49 years of 'legal'
drinking. I found it to be excellent. It was an eggnog product purchased from Sobeys and JP Morgan rum and it made me wonder how the drink could be improved with better rum and a home made eggnog recipe. Anyone have a favourite eggnog recipe they'd like to post?

I prefer the “lite” egg nog for a winter drink. Not so greasy.
I don’t do raw eggs, so many trad recipes are a no-go for me.

Try a quart of your local “lite” nog, (shaking well) and see if you enjoy the difference.
Dark rum can also add a nice touch. It’s the molasses.

Out there doing it best I can.

I haven't found homemade eggnog to be better than the stuff available at the supermarket this time of year, so that's what I drink. I do prefer bourbon as the alcohol component.

We use brandy or rum and a grind of fresh nutmeg floated on the top

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

You might look up Martha Stewart's eggnog recipe online.
It has a combination of raw egg yolks blended with heavy cream, bourbon and cognac, fresh nutmeg, topped with whipped egg white, and some other things I can't remember (for some reason).
If you float a little more bourbon atop the prescribed appellation, you really won't remember it!

I have tried most of the brands. I like Evan Williams the best.

Might try Promised Land.
It's our favorite.

My favorite for years has been Southern Comfort brand eggnog. It is easily recognizable on the shelf by its black carton. It is available throughout the holiday season in most supermarkets down he'ah.

The judicious addition of Bacardi Dark makes it especially festive. wink

I grew up with my mom handing out eggnogs to us boys as a quick, time saving, hearty breakfast between paper route delivery and school bus.

1 Banana
2 eggs
1 Tbs Maple Syrup
1/2 tsp vanilla or almond extract
dash salt
1 cup milk

in the blender for 15-20 seconds

I still enjoy as a breakfast these days

Store bought eggnog makes me gag.

I make a homemade eggnog that is an old family recipe. Yes, it uses raw eggs but I don't think that is as big a deal as most people seem to think it is.

Milk
Cream
Eggs
Sugar
Rum
Whiskey
Bitters
Nutmeg on top

It's not the Holidays at my house without it
