I was bored last night and was grazing Guns International. I came across this at G&H... https://www.gunsinternational.com/g...3-springfield-30-06.cfm?gun_id=102912320 I've developed an appreciation for Springfield 1903's like many here. Looking at the pics the only thing I could see that was clearly Jaeger was the scope mount. So I enlarged the pics to find the serial number... 1,318,276 I did a check of the SRS records... bingo! DCM "Special Target" from 1930. Here's the SRS data line: 1318276SPT 030630DCM RIFLE SALES 1922-42 I called G&H this morning and we came to terms ($700. shipped) I said "happy birthday to me" and am now looking forward to the rifle being here by Christmas... The barrel is dated 6/29... no star gauge showing on the muzzle but it may have been removed with the polish & refinish by Jaeger (if that's who really did the work). I'm hoping to find a star gauge code under the stock fore end....and a definitive sign of Jaeger stock work. The Lyman 48S is a pre-war w/ matching numbers. I have a minty Lyman Alaskan on a Jaeger mount waiting to be matched upon it's arrival...

One sign of Jaeger work is that the stocker’s initials and the year it was done are usually under the buttplate. Jaeger made minor changes to their side mounts over the years, if the one you have works, that will be great.

Lovely rifle! I’d love to have a 1903 some day. If you shoot it, let us know how it does.

Happy birthday, that's a nice rifle for that price. I'm curious about the Lyman 48, you said the numbers match, but the windage staff appears to be backwards.

On some early Lyman 48's the windage plate on the top of the slide can be found facing the shooter...

They do that on the ones with the little flip down aperture.

I hope you will post more pictures when you get the rifle.

Wow it has been 14 years since I started that thread on sidemounts. A little nostalgic reading it again. I, as I am sure many others here, sure miss Michael P.
