I like rum and eggnog and being Canadian, I'm familiar with the eggnog used in your drink, Tamid. I'll add that homemade eggnog, just about any recipe, blows the store bought stuff out of the water. And IMHO the best rums for eggnog are the fragrant amber rums like Appletons or my favorite for mixed drinks, Mount Gay.

Martha Stewart doesn’t live here.
I can’t say I’ve noticed a huge difference in the store bought eggnogs and the homemade stuff that is offered up at various holiday parties. My wife keeps a jug of either EJ brandy or Canadien whiskey on hand (strictly medicinal, in her case, she drinks a shot before bed when she has a cold, and she gets more than her share working in an elementary school) and I can’t tell the difference when it is mixed in. I usually drink it sans booze, it is a bit like desert, this time of year.
We get the Land o Lakes version, here. It hasn’t gotten better, or, worse, since they took the Indian lady off the packaging.
Best, Ted

My mom used to buy some store bought eggnog (which, 40 years ago, was probably better than the current offerings), doctor it up with some spices and then add a fifth of Dewars Scotch Whiskey. That was to appease her uncle and my father. Dad didn't drink much but when he did, it was Dewars. That's the eggnog I remember from my youth, cannot drink any other type now, even if I wanted to. My grandmother would have some at 10 AM on Christmas morning.
Her uncle was one of those guys who had a scotch in his hand when he came in, drank some through dinner, took a nap after dinner, and then went home. He had a colorful history, having run booze in Florida during prohibition. This is the guy who first let me shoot a gun. I think it was a 12ga Stevens 311, I was about seven or eight and it knocked me on my ass.
My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income. - Errol Flynn

I grew up with my mom handing out eggnogs to us boys as a quick, time saving, hearty breakfast between paper route delivery and school bus.
1 Banana 2 eggs 1 Tbs Maple Syrup 1/2 tsp vanilla or almond extract dash salt 1 cup milk
in the blender for 15-20 seconds
I still enjoy as a breakfast these days Call it what you will, but that ain't eggnog. JR

Not your grandma's eggnog:
Ingredients: 12 eggs separated 1 cup powdered sugar 1.5 cups brandy 1.5 cups bourbon whiskey 2 cups light rum 4 cups cream, divided Nutmeg
Method — Separate the eggs, setting the whites aside. — Beat the yolks in a large bowl until light. — Gradually beat in the powdered sugar with an electric hand mixer or wire whisk. — Slowly ad the brandy, bourbon and rum, beating constantly. — Stir in two cups of the cream. — Whip the remaining two cups of cream. — Beat the egg whites until stiff. — Fold the whipped cream and beaten egg whites into the yolk and liquor mixture Chill well in the refrigerator. — Sprinkle with nutmeg before serving in a punch bowl.
Makes about 3 quarts . . . .Do not drive
