For some time now I've had a Westley Richards 1871 Martini Sporting rifle that I know relatively little about. It's in wonderful condition, it's engraved and even has Selous plates on the stock. I beleive it to be chambered for the .577-.450 MH cartridge. Are there any books that could give me a historical back ground on the rifle and it's design? It seems worthy of being shot. I even have a set of modern dies for that cartridge. What are the options for one that does not reload black powder? THank you, Paul Driscoll

stop by the shop, I'll let you borrow my Westley single shot book. I also have the Kirkton book at home and will bring it in tomorrow. Give me a call if you need anything else, but these are the two best sources of info on that gun that I know of. Steve

Hammerback, Dies are currently available from, of all places, Lee Precision. I have a set of the .577 Snider dies, and they work great. Around $100 retail. And yes it is worthy of being fired!!! Would it be possible to see some pics? I have a passion for the older single shot. JB

Paul, I'm in the market for exactly that sort of rifle. If you happen to be interested in selling, let me know.
As for reloading - All I can help with is black powder. That's all I do, and it is very easy. I have not done that particular caliber, but it will be no different. So, if you decide to reload bp, or if you decide to sell, drop me a line at .brentd@iastate.edu
Thanks, Brent
