I won't pay any more for a gun (Parkers) if it has ejectors, all else being equal. I consider them along the lines of a single trigger - just a gadget that is extraneous to the essence of a double gun.

One thing that comes out whenever this discussion comes up is that there is a fair number of experienced people who claim the American vintage ejector guns are a problem in the reliability department. Taking them at their word, (I have only a little experience with a vintage American double with ejectors, having only 3 of them) but my experience with many modern ejector guns is that they rarely fail and never on any of my guns. I can only conclude that the American vintage ejector guns just weren't designed and executed well?

Those spent cases have nothing to do with ejectors, but a lot to do with self-centered lazy people. I luv ejectors and if that 12ga Sterlingworth didn't have them I would not give it a second look.

Chuck I agree, at least as when it comes to Parkers. I counted up Parker ejector problems with a friend of mine - between the two of us 4 out of 5 of our ejector Parkers had been sent to the gunsmith to have the ejectors worked on. All of my other American doubles are extractors. Another friend of mine just got his high dollar Fabbri back after having the ejector fixed. Never had trouble with my old Superposed. Anyway I enjoy Parkers without ejectors way more than those with.
Best,
Mike

Some guns are meant to have ejectors, I would not buy an English sidelock without them. It makes 'em what they are. Where in America's fields does the shooting get so hot you can't find your spent shells pinged out by an ejector gun?

Make that North America, Lowell, and I feel cut down to size scratching around like a squirrel looking for buds after a hot-gun shoot in an early-season blind of low conifers and laurel bushes.

I shoot and load fast enough without them and faster with them.
Unless I'm shooting driven birds, I rarely feel I miss many opportunities because of them. When I am and I do, it does not bother me.
There are times when I look at a gun and pass it over because the ejector system fitted is a dodgy old one or has been badly regulated and looks tricky and expensive to fix.

Whisters. Lots of them. Bats? It's -22C today. I watched a couple guys last week who put out their tollers and shot 2 1/2 boxes of shells---well, 64 shells, I counted them---and they didn't hit one. Greenhorns sky-busting in a badly placed blind.
