I had a GH Parker redone that had a broken stock and was a all gray gun. Some more pics of the gun I used on the Blythe phez hunt a couple weeks ago.

But all is not perfect. The muzzles have starting delaminating at the ribs. I'm intending to pull the ribs tomorrow and relay them. I'll try to do a step by step photo journal of the process.

That is a handsome piece. I really like the damascus as well. Best of luck on the relaying job. I am most interested in seeing the photos.

Chuck,

I am certainly not wishing you any bad luck or anything like that, but, if you could remember to put my name on that one in your 'last will and testament' it would be greatly appreciated! What a beauty!

Chuck, I have only one question. Why on earth would you use that beautiful piece of wood on such a beautiful gun and not invest an extra $2.00 for the genuine plastic white line spacers under the butt plate and grip cap?

Beautiful gun. Good luck with the ribs.

You are kidding, aren't you?
Parker never used white line spacers.

Very nice Chuck. Who did the case coloring and did you have the engraving re-cut after polishing?

Thanks for the compliments guys.

The basic gun is a 1905 GH, 12ga, #1 frame, 28" bbls. 6 1/2 lbs. that I paid way too much for from Wildwood some yrs ago. There was a fly in the purchase in that it had a broken stock when I got it out of 4473 jail, which neither Wildwood nor the recieving FFL claimed any knowledge. I waited enough years that the hurt went away.

The work was done by a friend that wishes to stay anonomous. He did all the work including stocking it, making some new screws, prepping the metal and coloring the barrels. The frame, forend iron were recased by Turnbull, the guard was charcoal blued by Turnbull.

That piece of wood is from another friend ,locally, that I shot skeet with. He had two blanks from the old downtown Pachmyr store from over 30 yrs ago. Stock dimensions are 1 1/2" x 2 3/8" no cast, 14 1/2" LOP. The other blank is being used for a AE Fox 12ga. My supply of whiteline spacers dried up and I didn't want to impose on any of you guy's supply, knowing how much some of you covet them, so I went ahead without one. Besides, like Mr Ken said, I probably couldn't afford a vintage whiteline. Buttplate is a Galazan repro.

The engraving was in very good shape and not worn and didn't need to be picked up except for the new screws.

Those phez have been standing still for over a year now.

Hey, on a related matter. I have wanted to do a restock job on a Fox Sterlingworth. How difficult is it get a machine inletted stock from Wenigs and fit it myself?

Very nice. A #1 frame 12 is a far more interesting gun, IMO, than the coveted #0 frame 16.

Onward on this project, I just pulled the ribs. I'll prep and try to get them re-layed today. Standard goo between them and the start of some rust. I'll clean that up and re-tin the areas that have delam'd. It was worse than the outer appearances let on. It was delam'd about 3" long on one side. From the outside it looked like only an inch.

First pics are what showed.

Beautiful job on a very nice gun. That Wood is what makes my heart trip.

Improved-Modified
I did a Winig rough cut stock for a gun about a year ago and it wasn't hard at all. The gun I did has a through bolt so I did not need to make a stock vise. With your Fox I would suggest making a stock vise to pull the stock to the action. Getting the forend right will probably take more time to get fit right than the stock.

Gordon,
I did another Parker straight stock from a very close machining job and it was pretty straight forward. I'm still not finished with the forend and it's been set aside for a long time now. More winter/summer projects.

On the Fox, the same craftsman that did this Parker is doing the stocking from bandsaw to chisle and finishing. The blank on this Parker and the Fox I picked up from a friend for $500 for the pair a couple yrs ago.

Well after some cleaning of the rust and crud between the ribs, great news! No pitting. Whew! That was my biggest fear.

Here's the so called "keel". Seems like such a large name for such a small part. Something like "nib" would seem more fitting.

Here's an interesting cartouche on the underside of the toprib.

When I get thru re-laying the ribs, I'll need to refinish. If any of you guys have experience with the B&W finishing process, please email me. spurshooter@verizon.net
