When I was in my teens and 20s and visited my Aunts & Uncles in StLouis Park, Mound, Maple Plain and Lyndale, my Uncle Howard would take me down to a restaurant decorated with a huge gun collection, that as I recall was called The Stagecoach. It had an associated gun shop next door. I remember buying a part box of UMC Arrow 8-gauge shells there. I kept one shell and sold the rest individually. Does that place still exist?

When you go to Pug's Guns don't look at the prices or you might faint, fall, and hurt yourself!

Sadly, no. The Stagecoach went belly up years ago, their gun collection was sold. As one of America's most ultra-liberal areas, the Twin Cities have all but eradicated independent local gun shops. Ironically, Minnesota also has a lot of hunters, millions of acres of public land open to hunting, and hunting is enshrined in the state constitution!

There was a time St.Paul had great gun shops -- Wm R. Burkhard and Kennedy Bros. Novotny (sp) was in that area too as I recall. My Super-Fox letters as being shipped to Kennedy Bros. in July 1928.

Whatever happened to Burger Bros.? They usually had an inventory of quality doubles as I recall.

Burger Bros. sold out to a bigbox store years ago - but it wasn't much of a loss, as their quality gun inventory never amounted to much.

PaulJ, Puglisi is famous for the home of the 8K Parker Vh.
He's gotta pay-off the Czar's Parker - don't he!

You're not likely to find expertise in all areas of the gun world in a "big box" store, at all hours that they're open. There simply aren't that many knowledgeable people around. But whether you decide to buy or not, either the Rogers or the Owatonna Cabela's will have plenty of sxs you can at least look at. I recently picked up a Miroku (not Daly-marked) 28ga OU from them, and I've already encountered a couple guys from whom I could make a little profit on the gun if I wanted to sell. That certainly wouldn't be the case with most guns you buy there, but if you go in as a knowledgeable buyer, you can do OK.

Will,
When are you going to out this way.
If you want to stop by on you want on your way to or from Minneapolis. I am about 1.5 hours east and I can fix you up with a cup of coffee or tea, and a few doubles to look at.
The pms won't work on my antique computer.
Cheers,

I bought my first shotgun from Joe's in St. Paul many years ago when they had a huge used and new gun department. Sadly, the last time I came through the area and stopped in, Joe's did not have a very big gun business at all.
