PeteM;
You were right, sure like those Pics. Just a few comments. That first pic of the Pieper is like his original patent of 1881 & is usually seen on guns marked "Original Diama"
As far as I know, though I cannot prove it, I think Berretta likely "Coined the Term" Monoblock.
Two other points, while Pieper did not call his "Steel Breech Piece" a Monoblock it in fact was. While you referred to your sawed off breech section as a Monoblock, it in fact isn't.
By definition a Monoblock is machined from a single piece of mat'l & is not joined by solder/braze/welding etc.
Mike; The real purpose of a Doll's head is not to hold the bbls to the frame but to provide reinforcement to the brech against the axial forces upon firing. Actual bolting of the bbls may or may not be incorporated into the Doll's head.

Thanks 2-Piper.

Thanks Doc - yes it is very similar. Mine doesn't have "Diana" anywhere on it.

Do either of you think the "766" could be a model number? It is stamped on the watertable and on the bottom rib.

Best,

Mike

It is off face, loose, and has a loose rib and I don't know what I am going to do with it.
Best,

Sorry but It's still an "ugly clunker".

Did you ever think about donating it to your local Cracker Barrel ?

You're such a positive fellow with never an unkind word to be said about anything, I'm truly surprised by your last post.

homelessjoe............why couldn't you let end there?
No it's not a sleeved Purdy, but to him a interesting old hammer gun. As usual you have nothing informative to add just snide remarks about someone else's property.

Me thinks you are a lonely person, or you harbor...........oh never mind it's not worth it!

Ok...Ok....I give.

I say pull all the stops.
Get the loose ribs fixed...put it back on face...get it fully engraved.

Then hang it in Cracker Barrel...or sell it to Battle.

FWIW I've seen two Belgium made guns, allegedly marketed by Sears, that had similar cylindrical balls to your 16 gauge.
