Sheep hunting is not a "young man's game", it's a "determined and in shape man's game".

Big difference.

I shared a Dall camp in the Brooks Range w/ a 70 year old man - he killed a beautiful ram.

I've got friend who drew a WY bighorn tag when he was 40. This guy is always in great shape. He killed a ram, but he said he'd never sheep hunt again. Too tough - both physically and mentally. Flat (pun intended) wasn't for him.

There can be huge differences between sheep hunts, too. On a Dall hunt in the Brooks, you might not hunt above 3500', while on some CO draw hunts, you might not hunt below 12,000'.

Most people start w/ a Dall - most 'economical' [unless you draw a sheep tag in the lower 48], very high success rates, lower elevations, and the seasons open early, when the weather is usually 'nice'.

Always looking for small bore Francotte SxS shotguns.
