Another post is hashing out the perplexities of gun oil. It got me to thinking that aside from the rust prevention aspect, just how often do the internal workings of a gun really need to be lubricated? While oil is certainly a nice idea, a casual observation would be that a decently made gun will give excellent service for a very, very long time without frequent oiling. Think of all the competition guns out there that go tens of thousands of rounds between oil changes with nary an incident, and can do this ten times over.
