I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool Ithaca NID man, but about 5 years ago, at a small show- a dealer I know (in a limited sense of the word) had a later NID 20ga. Grade 4E- (later series NID w/o the snail titties cocking indicator pins) and I asked if I could handle it. Believe he was asking $2850- As I reached for my Stanley 6' pocket tape, he said-in a hurry I felt- Oh, those are 28" barrels- no need to measure- But I did anyway, and got 26& 3/4" -and years of machine shop and carpentry work have taught me how to read a yo-yo-- I handed him back the shotgun, looked at the Stanley tape in my hand, and said: "damn, guess I'll have to get this re-calibrated. and walked away, my bankroll intact. Caveat Empetor- you damn betcha.. RWTF
