I sent a Sharps rifle through USPS several years ago. The people behind the counter were convinced I couldn't do that....

Luckily, I had printed off all the rules, and walked through them with them. They eventually agreed, and the rifle shipped successfully. I have run into same sort of nonsense over the phone with UPS, and FEDEX. Now, I just take my guns for shipping to my local gun shop, and he does a nice job of taking care of it all for me. And honestly, I swear it's cheaper than trying to do it myself. At least it's at a price I can live with. I got quotes over the phone that were twice what he charges me to handle it.

I also recently bought a T/C encore walnut stocked rifle and UPS literally broke the thing in half.... I was just happy it wasn't an old SxS, and was an easily replaceable T/C.
