My 2 cents from one who has been bitten hard by a recoiling shotgun with a scope that required several stitches is to go with a Burris Fast Fire III. Weighs all of 3 ounces and they flat out work. I'm not sure if your 1187 is drilled and tapped or not, but if not a Weaver style base can be added for probably $50. They are awesome little things. Line up the dot on the turkey's head and its all over. I like the 3 Minute size dot as at 40 yards it covers a turkey's head just about perfectly. BTW, I have them on both my 12 and 20 gauge Benelli's. The scope was taken off and sold. FWIW, I had the Pentax 2 1/2 power lightseeker with the circle X reticle on it. I killed a lot of turkey's with it, but it almost killed me that one day.
