I was enthused by this thread to pack some #6's and a tightly choked gun to north-central NC in an attempt to chase some doves. Upon inquiring of my friend's farm hand, "Bump," I learned that the doves had departed the vininity with a passing front two days prior. However, a flight of woodcock had just arrived and I was welcome to put my dog down to run through a cutover where rabbit hunters had flushed numerous woodies on Friday. Despite being inappropriately armed/equipped, I reported for duty early this AM and was flummoxed when no birds were pointed or flushed. Oh, well, at least the dog had a good run...
