actually Winchester built some [ a few ] model 1887s [ predecessor to 1901 ] with rifled barrel in .75 caliber, with maybe 150 gr of powder and a huge lead bullet....cartridges have survived and it was shown on their cartridge boards. it is written up in Cartridges of the World

would be an interesting build on the 1901 shotgun. I have very nice 1901 [ have had several at times ] and it is a slick impressively smooth gun.

with a rifled barrel like you said, it would stop about anything !
