Put a gun to my head and I'll waffle between a pre-64 M70 .30-06 and an '03 sporter, .30-06. When leaving on a trip to northern PA where the terrain varies between tight woods and open fields, I take a Savage takedown carbine in .303 Savage and one of the aforementioned '06's because they're both scoped and real killer-dillers out across a 300 yard field.

Favorite rifle for a day of loafing at the range: Heavy barreled '03 sporter, R2 Lovell, wearing a Fecker scope. Built by Hervey Lovell. That or a similar single shot Krag built by Hervey Lovell too, in .22 Maximum Lovell, purchased from Whitey shortly before he passed.
