12b Hammer shotgun by Purdey, S/No. 1 - 6974 (the one means 1 of a pair). 30" damascus barrels. Rotary u/lever , Scroll engraving with Dolphin Hammers. Figured stock.Black powder proof. The makers confirmed that this gun was made in 1864, and converted from PINFIRE to centre fire in 1889. Jardine (Auctioneers Ltd) Dumfries. 30/09/1996.
12b Hammer Shotgun by Purdey, S/No. 6704. 30" Damascus barrels. Rotary U/Lever. Scroll engraving, with Dolphin Hammers, Highly figured stock. Black Powder Proof. Again, this came from 1864. I only got a fleeting glance at this, as the vendor withdrew the gun, after dispute with the cataloger.....it was my opinion then, that this gun also was a PINFIRE conversion to centre-fire.
