Modern skeet is shot with both birds on the close side of the field, and in the same place or close to it. It is true that "old time" skeet was shot with the outgoing bird shot on the far side of the field with the tight bored barrel. The need for this tight bored barrel for a 32 or 33 yard outgoer expired before the beginning of World War 2.
