-24 this morning with about 18" snow on the level, but packed into the cattails and shelterbelts in drifts many feet deep. Going to be tough winter for wildlife in ND this year. Last time this happened I had over a hundred whitetails move into my 26-acre tree and shrub planting and tried to survive on browse. But the once-rare "January thaws" have become more frequent the last few decades, so who knows what will happen?
